Sean Robert Jones is a folk singer-songwriter based out of upstate New York. Shaped by a barren, working class environment with brutal winters, his music stretches the bounds of genre, pushing folk to the point of fracture and reflecting the heartbreaking wistfulness of his surroundings. He utilizes experimental harmonic structures, as well as complex instrumental arrangements, which aid in the delivery of parable-driven lyrical imagery. Sean draws not only from the realm of classical music, but also from the compositional prowess of songwriters including: Leonard Cohen, Glen Hansard, and early writers from the dawn of American history, whose names have been long forgotten. He believes that “music expresses the multitudes of emotional connections by which the worms of humanity tremble.”
Classically trained in violin performance from a young age, Sean developed as a disciplined and well-rounded musician. Teacher to teacher, program to program, Sean decided to follow the path laid out before him as a classical virtuoso. He attended SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music first to study classical violin and then soon felt compelled to follow his natural inclination towards songwriting, and auditioned into the Studio Composition program.
In September of 2017, Sean self-released his debut EP entitled Sightless. He is currently working on his first full-length conceptual album, And So Our Hearts Yearn, which fans can look forward to in June 2018.
